Farm Fest: Party for a Good Cause

The Fair Food Farmstand is throwing a fundraiser to finance its move.

The Fair Food Farmstand, which carries fresh produce, meats and dairy from local, sustainable and mostly organic purveyors has gone from a tiny folding table to a legitimate, if cramped, stall in Reading Terminal Market.

While demand for the Farmstand's wares has risen exponentially, the stand has found itself increasingly in need of more space to serve its customers, but in Reading Terminal Market there's not a whole lot of room to grow, unless a tenant moves out. When Rick's, the cheese steak stand that locked horns with market management, lost its court battle and was evicted, the Farmstand leaped at the opportunity to take over the prime Market real estate.

The new location allows the not-for-profit Farmstand to double its real estate and add badly-needed new refrigeration units. They've raised almost all of the $203,450 they need to build their new location, but they're $11,000 short of their goal, so they're throwing a fundraiser on Thursday, May 28 at the Market.

They're serving beer from Philadelphia Brewing Company, locally produced cheeses, John & Kira's artisan chocolates, plus there will be a raffle for prizes like Phillies tickets. Purchase tickets to the event online, starting at $15 or buy them for $10 at the Farmstand.
