It's a Greek Week(end) at St. George's

Festival celebrates Greek food, music and culture

Souvlaki fans, break out your bouzouki and head over to St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 8th and Spruce Streets for the annual Greek Festival, which runs from Thursday, May 28 through Sunday, May 31 from noon to 1 a.m. daily.

Check out authentic Greek food from dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) to Tyropita (feta cheese pie) to spit-roasted lamb, plus gyros and moussaka and baklava, oh my!

Want to learn how to make some of it yourself? Stop by a free cooking demonstration on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and learn how to make Greek classics like avgolemono (egg and lemon soup) and galaktoboureko (custard-filled pastry)

Take in a traditional Greek folk dancing show on Friday from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m. and all Saturday afternoon thru the evening. On Saturday night, after 9 p.m., you can work off some of those Greek sweets by dancing to live Greek music in the makeshift "taverna," where you can also sample the fiery Greek liqueur, ouzo.
