The president has discussed possibly favoring members of the alliance that spend a set percentage of their GDP on defense, sources told NBC News.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth told the Ukraine Defense Contact Group that the Russia-Ukraine war “must end” but said that returning Ukraine to its pre-2014 borders was an “unrealistic objective.”

Whitaker first took over the Justice Department on an acting basis during Trump’s first term in office in Nov. 2018, right after the midterm elections, when Trump announced on Twitter that Whitaker would be succeeding Jeff Sessions, whom Trump asked to resign.

President Joe Biden is scheduled to hold a high-profile and high-stakes news conference on Thursday. Biden spent the day at a NATO summit in Washington D.C. with world leaders. NBC10 political reporter Lauren Mayk has more.
