Beloved Philly sportscaster “Big Al” Meltzer is receiving big-time recognition this fall for his 50 years of contributions to the industry.
Meltzer, a former Channel 10 fixture, commented on the recognition, “I am delighted to accept this honor from my peers -- it’s that recognition that means the most.”
This award for lifetime, exemplary work in television joins nine other Emmys that Big Al has racked up during his celebrated career doing sports news and commentary.
Fans remember Meltzer’s engaging on-air presence, enthusiasm, sports knowledge and easily recognizable voice, said NATAS.
The Philadelphia Daily News called Meltzer “the Best Sportscaster in Philadelphia” in 1979.
Meltzer will receive his honor during the 28th annual Mid-Atlantic Emmys at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel on Sept. 25.
