One Year of Firsts: The Plunge Into 2010

January 1, 2010

"Every day do something that scares you." -- Eleanor Roosevelt

I feel fearless today. I ran into the freezing cold Atlantic with guys in speedos and women in polar bear pajamas. I scraped my knee, I can't get the sand out of my ears and I think I stepped on something that will have to be surgically removed but  I'm so happy!  What a rush!

Yesterday, I was thinking that this "doing a first every day thing for the next year"  is crazy and probably damn near impossible. For some reason, after running into the ocean and falling face first into the surf, I think it's a fantastic idea again.

I just want to say for the record, the folks at the Atlantic City Polar Bear Plunge were so encouraging and gave me lots of helpful tips like "Just don't think about it. Keep running," and "Don't go into the ocean wearing the only dry pair of socks you have."  Oh yeah and "Get out of the water if you can't feel your feet." Good one.

Best of all, my daughter, Alexa, was there shooting this video and we laughed about it all the way home. I taught my daughter to dream and now she's teaching me. Without her, I'm not sure I would have even thought about starting this blog. Happy New Year!
