PHILADELPHIA (November 15, 2019) – NBC10 and Telemundo62, in partnership with the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and the AACR Philadelphia Marathon, will host Progress and Promise Against Cancer Day, a live phone bank on Tuesday, November 19, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. ET. Now in its second year, the live broadcast will feature some of the world’s greatest minds in cancer research. Representatives from the Philadelphia region’s largest health care and academic institutions will answer questions about advancements in cancer research including prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.

"Our first phone bank with AACR held last year proved to be very successful and garnered hundreds of viewer calls," said Anzio Williams, Vice President of News for NBC10 and Telemundo62. "We are proud to partner once again with the American Association for Cancer Research to provide our viewers with direct access to the region’s leading medical experts in the field of cancer research in two languages."

More than 20 distinguished AACR-member physicians, scientists, and advocates specializing in various types of cancer will take questions, in English and Spanish, from viewers who can call, text or email their questions during the program.

These AACR members treat patients and conduct research at Philadelphia’s leading institutions including Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Drexel College of Medicine, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson, Lankenau Institute for Medical Research at Main Line Health, Penn Medicine, and The Wistar Institute. Joining the experts, the AACR has also convened survivor advocates to engage with viewers, learn about their cancer journeys, and share their own.

NBC10 and Telemundo62 will also air news stories leading up to the November 19 broadcast about breakthroughs in cancer research led by Philadelphia cancer experts, which have resulted in practice-changing treatments for patients worldwide, as well as inspiring stories about AACR survivor advocates who have benefited from lifesaving cancer research.

"Progress and Promise Against Cancer Day is a truly remarkable opportunity to connect AACR-member cancer experts with the community so they can learn first-hand about the exciting breakthroughs in cancer research occurring right here in the Philadelphia region," said Mitch Stoller, Chief Philanthropic Officer of the AACR. "As cancer touches virtually everyone, we are extremely grateful to NBC10 and Telemundo62 for creating a platform that helps to increase the public’s knowledge about cancer."

Viewers can submit their questions to cancerquestion@aacr.org. NBC10 and Telemundo62 will announce the toll-free number at 4 p.m. on November 19. Viewers can visit NBC10.com and Telemundo62.com to obtain resources about cancer and cancer research.
