Tammie Souza is the NBC10 First Alert Weather team's Chief Meteorologist. You can watch Tammie’s live forecasts weekday evenings at 5 p.m. and 11 p.m.

“Weather has been my passion since childhood,” said Tammie. “I was hooked when my grandfather took me flying in a small plane and there was no turning back when I saw my first tornado. From storm chasing to blizzards to hurricanes, I love forecasting and sharing the weather story with everyone. I was born in Pennsylvania and it is exciting to be back and forecasting in my home state.”

As a certified meteorologist Tammie is one of a handful of women in the nation and one of only a few meteorologists in Philadelphia that holds both the prestigious AMS/CBM Certified Broadcast Meteorology Seal of Approval awarded by the American Meteorological Society, and the NWA Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association. Both seals represent the completion of rigorous educational requirements in atmospheric science and the highest level of competency in communicating complex weather, water and climate information.

In 2010 Tammie was chosen as the first female chairman of the National AMS Board of Broadcast Meteorology and has served on National Boards for both the AMS and the NWA. She is also an evaluator for AMS/CBM and NWA Seal applicants.

Tammie holds a Master’s Degree in Applied Meteorology from Mississippi State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from San Diego State University along with a Broadcast Meteorology Certification from Mississippi State University.

She has been honored with 18 Emmy nominations and eight Emmy awards for Best TV Weathercast, Best TV Science Report, Best TV Feature Report and for a series of Web reports, plus a first place award from the Associated Press on Shipwreck Diving, done underwater on a 125 year-old shipwreck in Lake Michigan.

Tammie joined the First Alert Weather team in March of 2017. Prior to that she spent 16 years in Chicago at both NBC and FOX. She was also the first female Chief Meteorologist in Tampa/St. Petersburg, Florida. Early in her career she worked in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Chico, California.

Tammie’s husband Greg is a teacher and they have son Caleb. When Caleb was eight years old he was diagnosed with a life threatening brain tumor. His story was documented in a 3-part series on NBC10. Now the entire family has become very involved in pediatric cancer awareness and the need for more research and fundraising.

An avid football, baseball and hockey fan, Tammie enjoys storm chasing, snow skiing, water skiing, scuba diving, hiking, boating, fishing, gardening, flying, gourmet cooking, cake decorating and home remodeling. Environmental issues are also very near and dear to her heart.
