Christian Cázares is a reporter for Telemundo62. You can watch his live reports during the 5:00 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts.
Christian is passionate about being out in the community and meeting viewers. He enjoys telling people’s stories, their successes and struggles in order to create change.
Christian has covered President Barack Obama, the 2016 Presidential Debates and President Donald Trump. He also experienced Pope Francis’ visit to Philadelphia in 2015. He has followed the immigration system and its effects on the Spanish community, forcing some into sanctuary and others to rally for the Dream Act. In the summer of 2017, he went to Miami during Hurricane Irma and covered terror attacks in New York and New Jersey.
Christian’s most memorable story that he covered while working in Philadelphia was about a family who lost their baby in a hit and run accident outside of their home. The family was devastated for their loss and was unable to pay for the funeral arrangements. They created a bank account for the community to help pitch in, but when Christian heard of this, he reached out to them and informed them that it was unnecessary. In Pennsylvania, financial assistance for funeral services is available for families who lost their loved ones to violence.
“I recall the tears of joy from the family after I explained what they were eligible for,” said Cázares. “Knowledge is power and it is our responsibility to educate the community.”
Christian graduated from California State University, Monterey Bay. He broke into the television industry as an intern with Televisa, and has worked in San Diego, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and New Jersey. He has been nominated and won five Emmy Awards for investigation and other categories. Christian has also received numerous awards from San Diego Press Club, and the Society of Professional Journalism. His work has been recognized by the California State Assembly and Senate for shining light on consumer issues as well. He has also served as a board member of the National Association of Television Arts and Science (NATAS) for the Pacific Southwest chapter. In 2017, Christian was recognized by the Gloucester County NAACP where he was presented with the Media and Journalism award.
A big animal lover, Christian is the proud owner of an eight year old Maltese who is deaf. Truly passionate about pets and finding homes for shelter animals, Christian loves participating in Clear the Shelters for the Telemundo62 audience.
