Bloodied Teen Leads Police to Deadly Car Crash

Search for what happened to injured teen leads police to overturned car

Police found a disoriented 15-year-old girl covered in blood wandering along the Schuylkill Expressway right before midnight Wednesday.

She would lead authorities to uncover a bigger mystery.

The was taken to a Children's Hospital in pretty bad shape -- she was disoriented, confusingly telling police she was abducted and possibly sexually assaulted.

Afraid that the girl was possibly attacked, police tried to find out what happened and how she wound up covered in blood.

It wasn't until Thursday afternoon that the girl's story changed and police searched the wooded area off the highway. They found an overturned car mangled in a ditch off the ramps for Roosevelt Boulevard (Route 1) and Schuylkill Expressway (I-76). The vehicle had gone wildly out of control, clipping the top of tree as it went airborne, sources said.

Inside the wrecked car police found a woman’s body who the girl said was her mother, investigators said.

It looks like the wandering girl had somehow freed herself from the wreckage, sources said.

The on and off ramps between the Schuylkill Expressway and the Roosevelt Boulevard were closed Thursday afternoon as police investigated. The Westbound ramp reopened around 7 p.m.

The girl was listed in stable condition Thursday night. Police ruled out any possibility that she was sexually assaulted.
