All Clear After Water Threat

Tests show tap water in several central Pennsylvania communities has been found safe, despite an emailed threat that accompanied a bomb hoax at against the local county courthouse.

The Altoona Water Authority issued an advisory Friday warning thousands of customers in that city, Hollidaysburg and two nearby townships not to use their tap water.

The advisory was issued after Blair County received twin emails, one threatening the water supply and the other claiming a bomb had been placed in the courthouse in Hollidaysburg, about 85 miles east of Pittsburgh.

Water authority workers spent the weekend flushing the system and testing the water before the advisory was lifted Sunday night.

Now police are trying to determine who sent the threats.

Hollidaysburg police Chief Jeffrey Ketner says the investigation is β€œprogressing.”

The Mercer County courthouse, which is near Blair County, received a similar threat and was closed indefinably Monday.
