Utility Pole Snaps, Crashes Through Man's Car

Authorities say a utility pole along an area roadway snapped, crashing through a minivan's windshield and trapping the driver.

Crews needed to rescue the man before taking him to the hospital.

WFMZ-TV reports the freak accident happened Thursday along Route 309 near Route 443 in West Penn Township -- about 25 miles west of Allentown, Pa. Police say the pole broke for unknown reasons and crashed through the man's windshield as he was driving by.

Authorities say he was trapped inside until PPL crews arrived and cut electricity in the lines connected to the pole. He was eventually pulled out and taken to a hospital with unknown injuries; his condition wasn't immediately released.

The accident remains under investigation.
