Revenge of the Toilet-Dwelling Serpent

Snake bites Taiwanese man's penis

TAIPEI -- A man who sat down on the toilet in his rural home got a frightening and painful surprise when a snake bit his penis.

As soon as he sat down, he suddenly felt a knife-like pain and reacted instinctively by standing up, the China Times reported. When he looked down, he saw what is believed to be a rat snake.

The 51-year-old man was not seriously injured and was being treated Tuesday, according to Reuters. Local television stations showed footage of the black and yellow snake, being pulled out of the commode. Snakes often enter homes in rural Taiwan and other sub-tropical regions of Asia.

"As soon as he has passed the risk of infection, he can go," said the director of the hospital that was treating the unidentified man. "A snake's mouth isn't always clean."
