Pennsylvania Teen Self Inflicts Mouth Cut After Claiming Razor Blade in Halloween Candy: Police

A 16-year-old western Pennsylvania girl who reported finding a razor blade in her Halloween bubble gum made up the incident and inflicted a cut in her own mouth, which took 23 stitches to close, according to state police.

Troopers from the Indiana, Pennsylvania, barracks aren't releasing the girl's name and didn't immediately say whether she'd face criminal charges for the hoax.

The girl reported finding the razor in a piece of bubble gum she received during a community event in the Marion Center area, about 60 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

The event involved 22 people who registered to hand out Halloween treats from their vehicles at a school parking lot in East Mahoning Township.

More than 300 children received treats, and no one else reported anything was tainted, according to police.
