Dog Shot, Killed After Attack on Cops

Police say off-duty officer was walking his dog when 2 other dogs attacked

An off-duty officer out walking his dog was attacked by two other dogs Wednesday morning in Germantown and, after another officer responded, one of the attacking dogs was killed, according to Philadelphia Police.

The incident happened around 10 a.m. along the 4800 block of McKean Street, a police spokesman told NBC10.

The off-duty officer, who police have yet to name, was walking his dog when two other canines attacked, police said.

The off-duty cop was able to flag down an on-duty officer, cops said.

As the on-duty officer, who also wasn’t identified, responded to the scene one of the attacking dogs lunged at him and he was forced to shoot the animal dead, police said.

Both officers were unharmed and the off-duty officer’s dog was taken to the vet and was expected to be OK, cops said.

The second attacking dog wasn’t hurt.

NBC10 is working to find out more details of this incident including who owned the dogs that allegedly attacked the officers.
