PA Mall Guard Accidentally Shoots Another Guard With Own Gun: Police

Police say a security guard at a major mall in the Pittsburgh suburbs accidentally shot another guard in the buttocks while loading his personal weapon.

Ross Township police tell the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review the incident happened about 11 p.m. Tuesday in the security office at the Ross Park Mall. The mall was closed at the time.

Police say the mall guards aren't armed and the guard was handling his own gun at the end of his shift and has been fired.

Police didn't release the name of either guard, but say Universal Protection Services, of Pittsburgh, provides security at the mall. Nobody answered the phone at the company Wednesday, and a voice mail message was not immediately returned.

The wounded guard was treated and released from a hospital. Police don't plan to file charges.
