Large Dog Attacks, Injures Owner

Police say a large-breed dog has attacked its owner causing a severe arm injury.

Police spokesman Sgt. Patrick Cook tells The Asbury Park Press that an English Mastiff bit its owner on the arm at a home in Brick, N.J. just after 6 p.m. Tuesday. The owner was flown by helicopter to a hospital.

Cook says the dog was taken to an animal shelter in the township after the attack. He says the dog was recently adopted.

The reason for the Mastiff, which can weigh between 150 to 250 pounds, attacking it’s owner is under investigation but police say food could be involved.

β€œIt appears it may have been a food-aggression issue,” Cook told the paper.

The victim's name and condition were not immediately available.

The dog was taken to an area animal shelter, according to police.
