Man Stiffs Cabbie on Miami to Memphis Trip

Man busted after he refuses to pay $3,000 fare

When Miami cabbie Lelis Almeira picked up a fare who wanted to take a 20 hour trip to Memphis, Tennesse, he figured he'd hit the motherlode.

He got stiffed instead.

Almeira drove Luciolo Perez over 900 miles at a fare of over $3,000 but didn't get a cent when the two pulled into Memphis, according to CBS 4.

Perez was busted and charged with theft of over $1,000 for the free ride.

Almeira, who works for Flamingo Taxis in Miami, was clearly upset.

"I just want to put this incident behind me," Almeira told CBS 4.

Not only did the hack drive Perez to Memphis, he also paid for expenses like gas and meals on his own credit card.

The friend who Perez went to visit in Memphis said the passenger told Almeira he couldn't pay from the beginning.

"We ain't going to promise something we don't have," said Nellie Rose. "I don't know why the cab driver and him came on (to Memphis). That's between them."
