Minivan Smashes Through Liquor Store

A South Jersey woman was allegedly drunk behind the wheel early Wednesday when she drove her minivan into an Atlantic County liquor store, police said.

NBC10’s Ted Greenberg obtained exclusive dramatic video of the mini-van plowing into Decatur Liquors in Pleasantville.

Police say 35-year-old Daysi Sanz allegedly crashed the van right through the front of the store. The van careened down the aisles and ended up some 25 feet inside the store, then caught on fire.

The Galloway Township woman was seriously injured in the accident, which happened just after 1 a.m. She was charged with DWI and reckless driving.

Employees are thankful the store was closed at the time.

“If it happened during the daytime, at least two or three people would be dead right now,” said store employee Nick Gandhi.

Sanz was unconscious in the van when a Pleasantville police officer rescued her. The officer suffered smoke inhalation and other minor injuries getting her out of the store.

The store is expected to reopen sometime next week.
