Judge's Robe Found, No Robe Robber Involved

Head judge in Philly says the riddle of the robe was all "a mishap."

The robe of a Philly judge, which went missing while he was in the men's room Wednesday, has been found, the head judge in Philadelphia says.

President Judge Marsha H. Neifield says that the whole robe rumpus was "a mishap," and the errant garment is now with its rightful owner -- Philadelphia Municipal Court Judge Joseph C. Waters Jr.

Waters went to the bathroom for a few minutes Wednesday afternoon inside the Criminal Justice Center at 13th and Filbert streets and came back to find his impartial attire was missing from the robing room, reports the Daily News.

An email was then sent out to judges and courthouse staff around 1 p.m., asking people to keep an eye out for the missing robe.

Though Neifeld did not tell how or by whom the robe was found, she said it was not stolen by a robe robber.

Waters is a former police captain who was appointed to finish out another judge's term in 2009. He won election later that year.

With the robe back in his possession, Waters won't have to deal with the pricey business of buying a new one. Judge's robes range from $189.90 to $371.90, according to the Daily News.

He shouldn’t worry about what he’s wearing, anyway. Justice is blind.
