Caught on Tape: Wrong Way Driver on Route 309

68-year-old woman drives wrong way as another driver films the whole thing

The messy weather wasn’t the only thing that drivers on Route 309 had to worry about on Wednesday.

A 68-year-old woman was driving the wrong way south of Quakertown toward the Souderton exit in Bucks County.

Police say the woman got confused and entered the expressway using the off ramp.

The bizarre incident was captured on video by Adam Zurek of Horsham, Pa. just shortly after 11:30 a.m.

Zurek grabbed his cell phone to record the driver.

"At first I was in disbelief," said Zurek.

"I knew it would be a popular video so I grabbed my phone and tried it out."

Fortunately no one was hurt, and Hilltown Township Patrolman Jerry Fish was able to pull her over.

"She drove about four or five miles," said Fish.

"It was amazing to me that with the amount of traffic that was there and the weather and the speed that she was going that she didn't cause a lot of accidents. She was driving 55 to 60 miles per hour."

The woman was taken to a local hospital where she was evaluated. She returned home Thursday.

The woman wasn't cited for the incident.
