Hunter's Arrow Kills Family's Puppy

An eastern Pennsylvania family says their puppy was killed by a hunter's arrow.

The Reading Eagle reports the dog's body was found in a neighbor's field in Albany Township Sunday morning.

The puppy's owner, Kayla Quales, says Lilly was a 10-month-old border collie and pointer mix. She says the dog was an Easter present from her husband and family.

The shooting took place on the property of one of her parents' neighbors. Quales says she got a call from the neighbor that someone trespassing on his property had shot the dog with a crossbow. It's not clear whether the shooting was accidental.

The family has reported the shooting to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, which plans to investigate.

"I don't want to point blame," Quales told the paper. "I hope if anything, we raise awareness for the importance of following the proper protocol."
