Alleged Thief Swipes Stenographers: Cops

More than $10K of stenography equipment stolen from City Council Chambers

Two gray Stenographer machines, valued at about $5,000 a piece, were stolen from City Council Chambers Tuesday morning, Philadelphia Police said.

Police obtained surveillance video of the theft and identified the suspect as 38-year-old Rica Hughes of the 5300 block of Woodland Avenue in the Kingsessing section of the city.

Officers in Center City spotted Hughes in the area of 15th and Market Wednesday and made the arrest.

Hughes is charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft and other related offenses.
