A crash involving four tractor-trailers and another vehicle left a busy Lehigh Valley highway closed for hours into Friday afternoon.
Multiple big rigs and at least one car collided along eastbound Interstate 78 near milepost 68 in Lower Saucon after 2 a.m.
At least one injury was reported.
Authorities say one tractor-trailer landed on top of a car, while another truck went down an embankment. Another tractor-trailer split open, causing drums to spill out on the highway.
Both the eastbound and westbound directions of I-78 were closed between Exit 67 (PA 412) and Exit 71 (PA 33). The westbound closure was finally lifted after 1 p.m., PennDOT said.
U.S. Route 22 could be used as an alternate during the morning rush. But, NBC10 First Alert Traffic reporter Jessica Boyington says there was a crash on the New Jersey side of Route 22 as of 7 a.m.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation Friday. Heavy rains were falling at the time, authorities said.
