WebcamGate: Robbins May Drop Class-Action Suit

The family suing the Lower Merion School District for alleged webcam spying may drop plans to pursue a class-action lawsuit.

Harriton High School sophomore Blake Robbins has until June 7 to seek class-action status in the suit.

But a court filing says he won't pursue that strategy if affected families by then have seen the webcam images and screen shots secretly taken on student computers.

The Robbins' lawyer Mark Haltzman says the suit would act as an injuction to allow give the families the needed information to launch their own individual lawsuits.

Hundreds of Lower Merion parents oppose a class-action lawsuit for financial and other reasons.

The wealthy Montgomery County district acknowledges it captured 56000 screen shots and webcam images in a misguided effort to locate school-issued computers.
