Verizon Pays New Jersey for FiOS Fail

Attorney General says companies must deliver on what they advertize

Broadband and telecommunications giant Verizon has agreed to pay the entire state of New Jersey for its epic failure to deliver on certain FiOS promises.

In response to a lawsuit against the company, Verizon will be paying $795,000 to the state of New Jersey and $50 each to more than 1,100 customers.

Verizon New Jersey Inc. did not follow through on commitments for its FiOS television, telephone and Internet services, according to the state Attorney General’s office. One of those broken promises was the failure to give flat-screen televisions to new customers.

Attorney General Anne Milgram says that this victory will help ensure that companies deliver on what they advertize.

Verizon says that only a small amount of customers suffered service problems with the all-fiber-optic network. The company also said that problems occurred because more customers than it expected signed up for the services.

The FiOS network recently completed five years in the market place.
