Ex-Teacher, Football Coach Gets Jail for Stealing Student Funds From South Jersey High School

A former New Jersey high school teacher and football coach has been sentenced to nearly a year in jail after admitting he stole more than $14,000 in student funds to support a gambling habit.

The Burlington County Times reports 47-year-old Reginald Lawrence pleaded guilty to misapplication of entrusted property on Tuesday.

Authorities say the former Willingboro High School teacher admitted to stealing funds paid by students for school activities between October 2015 and April 2016.

Lawrence had been arrested in April after police say the money was discovered missing.

Lawrence has coached at several schools in the state and taught for 16 years, most recently as a history teacher and senior class adviser.
