Watkins, Young Inactive for Eagles

What a difference a week has made for Eagles No. 1 draft pick Danny Watkins as he went from starting his first NFL game to not even being able to play in it as the Birds open their "Dream Team" season in St. Louis against the Rams.

“Eagles inactives include Vince Young, (Jaiquawn) Jarrett, Danny Watkins, Winston Justice. Wow Watkins goes from starter to inactive in week,” tweeted NBC10’s John Clark.

“Surprised Danny Watkins not dressing today. Shows how far behind he is with his line play,” tweeted Howard Eskin.

Clark and Eskin make a good point. It’s amazing how quickly the Birds top pick fell out of favor with the team after a tough preseason. Instead of Watkins on the line protecting Mike Vick, Kyle DeVan will get the nod.

The other big name to land on the inactive list this week was Vick’s backup Vince Young. The new Birds backup QB hurt his hamstring in the preseason finale and was held out of practice all week.

Normal third-stringer Mike Kafka now moves into backup duties with Young on the mend.

The rest of the Eagles inactives were rookies CB Curtis Marsh, OL Julian Vandervelde, SS Jarrett and DE Phillip Hunt. Veteran OT Justice -- who has been hampered by injuries during the preseason -- round out the list.

The Rams not suiting up Sunday included WR Danario Alexander, SS Jermale Hines, TE Michael Hoomanawanui, WR Austin Pettis, DL Robert Quinn, LB Jabara Williams and OG Tony Wragge.
