    Germany Takes Gold, US Still Medal-less in Women's Biathlon

    With expectations of earning its first ever Olympic medal dashed, the U.S. biathlon team will have to wait for another shot in the women’s 7.5km sprint. 

    Germany's Laura Dahlmeier came in first in Saturday's race, which combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting, with a finish time of 21:06.2 and no missed shots. Her medal is the first for Germany at this year's Winter Olympics.

    Marte Olsbu of Norway came in second for the silver medal, and Czech Republic's Veronika Vitkova came in third for the bronze.

    Five Americans participated in the race, but medal hopeful Susan Dunklee came in 66th overall.

    The daughter of two-time U.S. Olympic cross-country skier Stan Dunklee, the Vermont native was the sole Olympic veteran for the U.S. women, having made her debut in Sochi.

    Dunklee made U.S. biathlon history when she landed on the world championship podium last year with the silver medal in the mass start. It was the first time a U.S. woman had won a medal at worlds.

    Also on the U.S. team is Emily Dreissigacker, the daughter of U.S. Olympic rowers Dick Dreissigacker and Judy Greer. Dreissigacker came in 51st place Saturday. Clare Egan came in 61st.
