Eagles Coordinator's Son Flies to Penn State

Skyler Mornhinweg is Happy Valley bound

Joe Paterno is turning to the son of a football coach to lead the Nittany Lions.

Skyler Mornhinweg, a quarterback at St. Joseph's Prep and the son of Marty, the Eagles offensive coordinator, on Tuesday announced his decision to play at Penn State.

Mornhinweg, who made his official visit to State College last month, is a 6-foot-3, 215-pound rising senior, who originally committed to Stanford. But he backed out when former Cardinal coach Jim Harbaugh left for the NFL.

Mornhinweg is a three-year starter at quarterback, but also plays defensive back.

He is ranked as the 29th best player in Pennsylvania on the current Rivals.com 2012 Prospect Rankings.

He has compiled 45 touchdowns in his career, 32 of them through the air. Last year, he passed for 1,546 yards and 13 touchdowns.

He is also the captain of the St. Joe's baseball team.
