Sixers Confirm Bryan Colangelo Is Still Around for Now

The Sixers finally broke their silence on Thursday afternoon. … To officially confirm Brett Brown's contract extension that was reported two days ago.

It's not the type of news fans have been eagerly awaiting, but it did come with a noteworthy inclusion: Bryan Colangelo.

The Sixers' recently-embattled president of basketball operations, who is under investigation from the team after a bizarre story involving Twitter and burner accounts surfaced, is at the forefront of this Brown press release.

First, the release says Colangelo "announced" the contract extension. And then it even offered a quote from the de facto GM.

"Brett has done a terrific job over the past several years building and cultivating a program, but the substantially positive growth in the win column these past two seasons has proven he is the right man to continue leading this team in our quest for an NBA championship," Colangelo said in the statement. "I couldn't be more thrilled for Brett, his family and the organization to be moving forward for several years to come."

Now, it doesn't really matter what that quote says. So many press release quotes are manufactured by other people in the team anyway.

What does matter is that after going silent during this investigation that started Wednesday morning, the Sixers finally broke that silence and did it by continuing to list Colangelo in his current title.

It is still unclear whether or not Colangelo will survive this scandal, but it doesn't appear he's out just yet.
