Sixers Sign Second-round Pick Marial Shayok to Two-way Contract

Apparently the Sixers like what they've seen from Marial Shayok through two summer league games.

The team on Sunday signed the 2019 second-round pick to a two-way deal. Teams can have up to two two-way deals. Big man Norvel Pelle was awarded with the other last week. Both players can spend up to 45 days with the Sixers.

Shayok, selected 54th overall, was the only player the Sixers took and kept in the second round. The Ottawa native spent his first three collegiate seasons at Virginia before transferring to Iowa State for his senior season. With the Cyclones he was able to show off more of his offensive game, averaging 18.7 points a game (second in the Big 12) and earning a spot on the All-Big 12 First Team.

The Sixers like his 3-and-D potential.

"Marial is a natural-born scorer who is committed to being a tough defender," GM Elton Brand said in a statement. "He's a great person and a talented basketball player who can stretch the floor and knock down the three-point shot. We look forward to growing Marial within our programs in both Philadelphia and Delaware."

The 23-year-old has averaged 16.5 points and is 5 of 13 (38.5 percent) from three through two summer league games. This spot always seemed destined for Shayok, but the team made it official Sunday.
