Sixers Notes: Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot Gives No. 20 to Markelle Fultz

There are a lot of pressing questions heading into Sixers training camp.

How many games will Joel Embiid play?

How will Ben Simmons do running the point?

What jersey number will Markelle Fultz wear???

Fultz has donned No. 20 since his freshman year of high school. Last season, that number belonged to Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, who also wore it internationally prior to the NBA.

When the Sixers revealed their new uniforms for the 2017-18 season, the unveiling featured Fultz … in No. 20.

"Tim was a good enough person to give it up to me," Fultz said in a Sixers.com video. "He's become very close to me. I appreciate him giving me No. 20. I think he knows that. I'm going to represent it well. I think he had a lot of meaning behind it, too, so I've got to represent it the right way."

Earlier this summer, Luwawu-Cabarrot joked on Instagram that the cost of his number would be hefty, to the tune of a luxury sports car. He and Fultz formed visible chemistry on the court and on the bench during summer league, so the second-year guard may have dropped the asking price.

There's no word yet on what number Luwawu-Cabarrot will wear this season for the Sixers. He posted a photo with a No. 3 jersey for the French national team on Tuesday, shortly after Fultz's number was announced.

The Sixers are holding an online contest to win one of five Fultz jerseys. The rookie hopes fans appreciate his attachment to the number.

"It's kind of crazy, really, seeing your number that you want and have your name on the back of it," Fultz said. "It just shows that you worked hard for something, you got that spot, and you've just got to protect your brand."

TLC injury update
Luwawu-Cabarrot suffered patellar tendinitis, left his training with the national team and will not participate in EuroBasket this summer. The Sixers are aware of his injury, according to a source. Sportando first reported Luwawu-Cabarrot left the training camp.
