The dangerous Trae Young
Complete coverage of the Philadelphia 76ers and their rivals in the NBA from NBC Sports Philadelphia.
The Hawks have won their last three games against the Sixers, and Trae Young combined for 65 points and 23 assists in the final two matchups between the teams last year. The 6-foot-1 guard has already posted 77 points and 18 assists in Atlanta's opening two wins.
Compared to last season, the Sixers appear better equipped to handle Young, who will presumably be guarded often by Josh Richardson.
Those threes are going to start falling … right?
Tobias Harris, fresh off a 29-point night in Detroit, has shot 6 for 11 from three-point range in the Sixers' first two games.
Here are how the other Sixers who have started a game have fared so far:
Ben Simmons: 0 for 0
Embiid: 1 for 4
Matisse Thybulle: 1 for 5
Richardson: 0 for 8
Horford: 3 for 13
That's a combined 5 for 30 (16.7 percent). The Sixers likely won't be a great three-point shooting team this season, but they're surely better than this.
A gem of a Vince Carter tale
The Hawks' 42-year-old Vince Carter is the oldest active player in the NBA.
Brett Brett had a couple of Carter stories to share after practice Thursday. Along with Carter "jumping over" one of his players during the Sydney Olympics 19 years ago, when Brown was an assistant coach for the Australian national team, he remembered another moment.
Once for me in Memphis, I'm yelling at Jakarr [Sampson], I believe, and the ref thought I was yelling at the ref, and so I got a technical. And Vince came way out of his way to tell the ref that ‘he was yelling at his player.' And he flipped the technical, and I remember telling Vince, that enables me to afford the couch that my wife wanted now that I don't have to spend the money on the fine for the technical.
"We both had a good laugh. He's amazing - his durability, his longevity. All class. He must live incredibly well to be this healthy for this long. Just a tremendous story.
