Sixers Assign Jonah Bolden to Delaware Blue Coats

The Sixers no longer have two 6-foot-10 Australians on the roster.

The team announced Wednesday afternoon that Jonah Bolden has been assigned to the Delaware Blue Coats, the Sixers' G League affiliate.

Bolden scored his first NBA points on Monday night, but his only chances to play in the Sixers' first eight games were during garbage time. The 22-year-old Australian should see a lot more of the court with the Blue Coats.

The No. 36 pick in the 2016 draft, Bolden signed a four-year, $7 million contract with the Sixers in July, with the first two seasons of the deal guaranteed.

With veterans Mike Muscala and Amir Johnson getting minutes at the backup four and five spots over the rookie Bolden, there hasn't been an opening in the Sixers' rotation. When Wilson Chandler returns from his hamstring injury, it's even more difficult to foresee a spot for Bolden. This move may be an indication that Chandler will be back soon.

Bolden had a somewhat disappointing summer league campaign this year, averaging 6.5 points on 35 percent shooting and 6 rebounds, although he continued to show his potential as a long, athletic interior defender. He posted 4.75 points and 2.25 rebounds per game in the preseason.

The Blue Coats' season opener is Saturday at Raptors 905.
