5 Sixers Observations 2 Weeks Before the NBA Draft

The NBA draft will take place in just under two weeks. The Sixers have five - count them, five - selections over two rounds. Here are just as many thoughts as the Sixers have to address picks No. 3, 36, 39, 46 and 50 on June 22. 
 
Different outlook this draft
Unlike previous years when the Sixers were looking for best player available, this time they're focusing on fit, too. The Sixers have more pieces in place to build around than they had in the past. Whoever they draft at No. 3 will have to complement Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, Dario Saric and the young core they have been putting in place. 
 
Sixers still could select a point guard
That said, the Sixers aren't ruling out drafting a point guard just because they want to utilize Simmons at the point. Look at De'Aaron Fox as an example. He has said he is confident he can play off the ball in a backcourt duo. Simmons hasn't played an NBA game yet, let alone an NBA game as a point guard. His role at the one will be very much in the experimental stages at the start of next season. It is not out of the question for the Sixers to take another player at the one.
 
Keeping all four second-round picks unlikely
The Sixers have far more second-round picks than they actually need with eight players under contract for all of next season. The Sixers could use those some of those picks on a draft-and-stash situation with players currently under contract elsewhere. They also could send some of those picks to the D-League. A highly likely scenario is the Sixers will try to trade one or more of those picks. Often times there are teams looking to get another player in the draft. Another option is using second-round picks to make a trade happen.

Which leads us to another scenario: There has been talk about the possibility of trading the third pick on draft night. What about trading a current player? The Sixers tried to move Jahlil Okafor at the deadline. They have remained open about the possibility of trading him if the right situation comes along for both Okafor and the team. Could the Sixers package Okafor (or other players on their roster) with any of their five picks to complete a deal?
 
Behind-the-scenes work has been done
The Sixers held their first two pre-draft workouts at their training complex in Camden, N.J. this week. Participants have been second-round and undrafted prospects. That's not their first time watching players, though. Prior to that, the Sixers attended agent-led and private workouts across the country to further evaluate top-10 prospects. These are the players that won't necessarily come to a workout in Camden but NBA teams have had the chance to see them at a different location in other organized events.
