The Sixers got forward Jason Kapono from the Toronto Raptors in exchange for power forward Reggie Evans, the team announced Tuesday.
The move gives the 76ers a much-needed sharpshooter who can spread defenses.
Kapono is tied with Steve Kerr for the highest three-point shooting percentage (.454) in NBA history. He showed off that shooting precision at the NBA’s All-Star Weekend winning the three-point contest in back-to-back years in 2007 and 2008.
The 6-foot-8-inch UCLA alum played in 321 career games with 61 starts, averaging 7.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in 19.2 minutes per game over six seasons with Toronto, Miami, Charlotte and Cleveland.
“We are very excited to add one of the league’s most prolific three-point shooters in Jason Kapono,” said Sixers General Manager Ed Stefanski. “We feel that this move addresses our goal of improving our shooting from the perimeter."
Evans was a high-energy bruiser who became expendable with the emergence of Marreese Speights in the middle for the Sixers. Evans' minutes, points and rebounds per game all went down last season from the previous season with the team.
But there are no hard feelings with Evans, according to the Sixers.

“I want to thank Reggie Evans for his contributions to the team for the past two seasons and we wish him only the best," said Stefanski.
The deal won't be finalized until each player passes a physical.
