Sixers Honor Wilt's 100-Point Game

Attendees of Friday night's game against the Warriors will receive a piece of the actual court where Wilt Chamberlain scored an NBA record 100 points 50 years ago.

The Philadelphia 76ers are doing their part to commemorate one of the greatest moments in sports history.

Friday marks the 50th anniversary of the late Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game. On March 2, 1962, Wilt Chamberlain of the Philadelphia Warriors scored 100 points in a victory over the New York Knicks in Hershey, Pa. It’s a record that still stands today.

The Sixers will honor Wilt’s historic achievement during Friday night’s home game against the Golden State Warriors at the Wells Fargo Center.

All fans in attendance will receive a specially mounted 2”x2” piece of the actual court where Wilt set the NBA record.

The game will also feature a special halftime ceremony in which the Sixers will honor Chamberlain’s family. Friends, former teammates and others connected to the 100-point game have been invited to join in on the ceremony as well. Video highlights of Chamberlain’s career will also be played throughout the night.

The 7-foot-1, Philadelphia-born center was a dominating force in basketball. Wilt the Stilt, aka the Big Dipper, graduated from Overbrook High School, played for the Harlem Globetrotters, Philadelphia/San Francisco Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers.

He was a 2-time NBA champion, 4-time NBA MVP, one time NBA finals MVP, 13-time NBA all-star and 7-time scoring champion. In all, he scored over 31,000 points and grabbing nearly 24,000 rebounds in his career.

While he passed away in 1999 at the age of 63, he will always be remembered as one of the greatest basketball players of all time and one of the most dominating forces in all of sports.
