At what point do the Flyers panic about their defense?

When rookie Ryan Parent was placed on the shelf for three months after shoulder surgery, Philadelphia Flyers GM Paul Holmgren started making calls to land a defenseman to no avail (for the moment).

Now that Randy Jones will be out up to eight weeks pending surgery on a labrum in his hip, what does Holmgren do? Take out an ad on Craigslist? Air drop "have you seen an available defenseman?" fliers at tonight's Calgary/Vancouver game? Choke down the bile and sign Marek Malik?

With Jones down, the Flyers defense is Kimmo Timonen, Braydon Coburn, Ossi Vaananen, Steve Eminger, Lasse Kukkonen and rookie Luca Sbisa for 10 games. Is that good enough to hold the fort for three months? Is Holmgren handcuffed by the salary cap?

Does Russia need Bryan Berard more than Martin Biron does? Sarah Palin says she's strong on defense; suit'er up on Saturday. She's a pit bull.

What a mess. We feel bad for anyone who picked the Flyers to win the Atlantic before these injuries decimated their blueline.

D'OH!
