Phillies Designate LHP Daniel Stumpf for Assignment, Recall Severino Gonzalez

The Phillies designated LHP Daniel Stumpf for assignment and recalled Severino Gonzalez from Triple A Lehigh Valley.

Stumpf was a Rule 5 draft selection from the Kansas City Royals in December and made his Major League debut in the Phillies' opening series against the Cincinnati Reds.

He pitched three games in April before he was suspended 80 games for using performance enhancing drug dehydrochlormethyltestosterone. After serving his suspension, he returned after the All Star break and pitched in four games before he was DFA'd on Friday.

His final appearances came on Thursday night, when he allowed three runs on five hits over two innings. He finishes with a 10.80 ERA, having given up nine hits and six runs over five major league innings.

Gonzalez had a 3.38 ERA in 13 ⅓ innings over 11 appearances before the All Star break.
