A shot at the Big Dance for the Ivy League schools' basketball teams is changing and University of Pennsylvania's Palestra will play a part.
The league announced Thursday its men's and women's teams will compete in a playoff tournament beginning next season to determine which school will get the automatic bid to NCAA Division I Basketball Championships.
The Ivy League's first-ever conference playoffs are scheduled for March 11-12, 2017 at the historic Palestra. "Ultimately, this decision was based on enhancing the overall experience for our basketball student-athletes, while also paying attention to time demands by shortening the regular season," Peter Salovey, Yale president and chair, Council of Ivy League Presidents, said in a statement.
Previously the team – this season it's Yale – that finishes with the best 14-game, regular-season conference record heads to March Madness.
