Oswalt Sent to DL, Kendrick to Start Saturday

Looks like fantasy baseball owners should be gobbling up Vance Worley (if they haven’t already -- I know I did) because the rookie’s stay in the majors could be lasting longer than originally thought with ace No. 3 Roy Oswalt scratched from his next scheduled start.

Little Roy had spent a week plus -- missing his last two starts -- tending to family matters in twister-ravaged Mississippi.

Now he is going to miss time with his bad back. According to General Manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. Oswalt has lower back inflammation and was placed on the 15-Day disabled list retroactive to April 27.

Righty Scott Mathieson, 27, was called up to take the roster spot. He is 0-0 with a 4.61 ERA in nine relief appearances at Triple-A this season.

And fans that thought they would get a good pitching matchup of Jair Jurrjens (3-0, 1.52 ERA) and Oswalt (3-1, 3.33) will get Kendrick and some rookie. Kendrick will make his first start of the season. He will be matched up against highly rated prospect Julio Teheran who was called up from Triple-A to make his major league debut.

Joe Blanton could return from the DL on Monday but if he has any setbacks Worley would get the nod, according to Philly.com.

Even if Blanton comes back, with Oswalt going on the DL expect Worley (2-0, 0.75) to continue to start for the Phightins.

And we will keep an eye on Oswalt trying to get the scoop on his bad back.
