Olympic Hopefuls Compete at NCAA Gymnastics Meet

Six current members of the U.S. national team will compete at the NCAA

Some of the nation's top gymnasts are in Oklahoma this week for the NCAA men's championships.

Just as college football serves as the minor leagues for the NFL, college gymnastics teams feed talent into the U.S. Olympic squad. Six current members of the U.S. national team will compete at the NCAA meet this week. The U.S team won the bronze medal four years ago.

The college sport is struggling. There are only 17 NCAA teams in the country at all levels, and national contender California nearly had its program bumped down to a club sport.

That has college coaches considering changes that could rejuvenate the sport and help it blossom again.
