Nick Foles Misses Practice Again, Says It's Not a Big Deal

Nick Foles wants you to relax. He's fine.

Foles has missed the past three training camp practices, including today, with what he called muscle spasms to his trap/neck area.

"It's not a big deal," Foles said after Tuesday's session. "Once again, we're just being smart."

Head coach Doug Pederson said the soreness Foles has been experiencing is completely unrelated to the elbow injury that forced him to miss extended time last training camp.

Foles said he's not completely sure how the injury happened, but mentioned that with quarterbacks, things sometimes get aggravated.

It seems very unlikely the Eagles would force Foles into game action in a couple of days in the preseason opener, but Pederson and Foles didn't rule it out.

"We're still talking about it. Day to day," Foles said. "We're worrying about the training room right now, we're going through the rehab protocol. We'll see. We never rule anything out. But at the end of the day, we'll see what happens."

While Foles hasn't practiced at all the last three days, Carson Wentz has continued to participate in 7-on-7s, but not 11-on-11 drills. The team saw what they wanted from Wentz in full-team drills last week and doesn't want him to get inadvertently bumped.

Although Pederson, for whatever reason, wouldn't definitively say it, Wentz is not going to play on Thursday night.

"He obviously hasn't taken 11-on-11," Pederson said. "We're still monitoring his practice. If he's not in practice ... you can figure it out."

That probably applies to Foles, too.

Anyway, Pederson and Wentz said they expect the plan for next week to be the same. That means another week where Wentz is a limited participant in practice, not doing full-team drills.

And another week of Wentz being forced to watch another quarterback take his first-team reps.

"It's frustrating," Wentz admitted today. "Obviously getting a chance to be out there and everything, I felt great. It was fun to be out there. Just trusting what the doctors are saying. Without a doubt, it's tough to sit there and watch."

With Wentz and likely Foles out for Thursday night's game, Nate Sudeld should be the Eagles' starting quarterback. Pederson said his starters who are healthy will play and at least get a little bit of work in. Pederson said he wants starters to get around 65-70 snaps in the preseason.

Some good news on the injury front: Zach Ertz, Richard Rodgers and Markus Wheaton all returned to practice. Ertz had missed the previous three days.

Nelson Agholor didn't practice on Tuesday, but after practice said he's fine. He just got a rest day. That's wild to think about; just last year, he was fighting for his NFL life.
