Jason Peters Will Start for Eagles on Sunday Despite Biceps Injury

Jason Peters won't miss a day of practice and will start against the Panthers Sunday, even though the 36-year-old left tackle suffered a torn biceps in the Eagles' win over the Giants Thursday night.

"He's doing fine," Pederson said Wednesday morning. "He'll practice today."

Peters, the second-oldest starting offensive lineman in the NFL, missed time with a quad injury earlier this year before suffering the biceps injury, and he's also coming off a torn ACL.

He's started all six games this year but left the Tampa game after just eight snaps with the quad and left the Giants game in the third quarter with the biceps.

"He definitely can play," Doug Pederson said. "There's no concern with injuring him any further. We have all the confidence in the world in him, and he'll be ready to go."

Peters' backup is Halapoulivaati Vaitai, who was the starter down the stretch last year and in the playoffs through the Super Bowl after Peters was lost for the season.

Peters, now in his ninth season with the Eagles, is a 10-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team all-pro and considered a Hall of Fame candidate after he eventually retires.

But the injuries are piling up on Peters, and whether it's because of injuries or age his level of play has not been up to the standard we're used to seeing.

And with a bye week coming up after the Eagles face the Panthers Sunday at the Linc and the Jaguars a week from Sunday in London, you would think it might be tempting for the Eagles to shut Peters down to get him healthy for the second half of the season.

But Pederson shot that theory down.

"There's really no need to," he said. "We have all the confidence in the world in Jason. He works his tail off each week and gets himself prepared and ready to go. We're very comfortable with him playing."

Only 11 offensive linemen in NFL history have made more Pro Bowl teams than Peters, and 10 of them are in the Hall of Fame. The 11th is Joe Thomas, who just retired this year.

But age and injuries could finally be catching up to Peters, and it's fair to say his future with the Eagles is cloudy. He's earning $6.75 million this year with a $10.67 million cap figure with a 2019 team option at $7.75 million with the same cap figure.

Jordan Mailata is waiting in the wings and could be the guy moving forward. But for now, Peters stays and he starts.
