As the Eagles began their practice week on Wednesday afternoon, they were down to just two running backs on the 53-man roster as Wendell Smallwood missed practice.
The good news is that Smallwood is not injured. He missed practice for a personal reason.
Smallwood had been the only Eagles running back to stay healthy from training camp through the first seven weeks of the season. After being a long shot to make the roster, Smallwood has been the Eagles' leading rusher through seven games. He has 52 carries for 233 yards (4.5 yards per carry).
Without Smallwood on the field, the Eagles were down to Corey Clement, Josh Adams and Donnel Pumphrey, who was just added to the practice squad. If Smallwood's injured, bringing in Pump makes more sense. He might need to be called up and play this weekend.
Carson Wentz was limited in practice with a back injury. He was limited last Wednesday too. But Wentz is expected to practice the rest of the week and play Sunday.
