The Eagles took down the Giants 25-22 on Sunday to keep their season alive, but did they get a little bit of help at the end of the game?
Yeah, maybe a little bit.
The final play of the game ended after Sterling Shepard caught a pass and flipped it back to Odell Beckham Jr. Eagles linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill was trying to tackle Shepard as he flipped the ball so KGH kind of swung around and his legs tripped up Beckham. End of the game.
Former NFL referee and CBS rules analyst Gene Steratore said Grugier-Hill should have been called for a tripping penalty, which would have given the Giants one more untimed down.
Grugier-Hill apparently disagreed.

Giants head coach Pat Shurmur talked about the non-call Monday.

While Shurmur might be right about the penalty, not exactly sure about his math. According to the NFL rulebook, tripping is a 10-yard penalty. OBJ was tackled at the Giants' 41-yard line, so the ball would have advanced to the Eagles' 49.
That would have set up a 66-yard field goal for Aldrick Rosas. The longest field goal in NFL history is 64 yards. Rosas, for what it's worth, has been very good from long-range in his career. He's made 6 of 7 field goals from 50-plus yards. If the Giants didn't want to attempt a field goal, they would have at least had a Hail Mary attempt. The officiating wasn't good on either side Sunday. These refs missed several calls that would have helped the Eagles too.
Maybe they missed this one too. Oh well. The Giants did give up a 16-point lead, so to blame it on a couple bad calls is silly.
