3 Eagles Starters Miss Wednesday Practice

Brandon Graham, Halapoulivaati Vaitai and Jay Ajayi appeared to be the only three Eagles who weren't practicing Wednesday.

All three were expected to miss practice.

Graham missed the last game with an ankle injury he suffered against Oakland on Christmas Day. He was given some extra rest and should be fine for the game on Jan. 13.

Vaitai has been on the injury report with a knee issue but was still able to play every snap against the Cowboys in the regular season finale. It's an injury he's had all season and it seems likely the team gave him some rest Wednesday.

Ajayi has not been listed on the injury report in recent weeks, but his chronic knee issues are no secret. It's possibly one of the reasons the Dolphins didn't hesitate to trade him away during the season and it's one of the reasons he fell to the fifth round of the draft in 2015.

"As you know with his history he's had the knee," head coach Doug Pederson said Tuesday. "Just rest on that knee is all."

The Eagles are resting Ajayi, who figures to be a big key in their postseason run. Pederson said there's a possibility they could start using Ajayi as a workhorse back in the playoffs. After a season with 260 carries, Ajayi had just 208 this season and 70 in seven games with the Eagles. He should be well-rested heading into the playoffs.

The Eagles aren't required to submit injury reports this week. The next official injury report will come next Tuesday.

Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz and quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo were both at practice Wednesday afternoon. Both coaches are hot names for head coaching vacancies around the NFL.

The Eagles practiced inside Wednesday and wore shoulder pads and helmets. Some players wore thigh pads.
