Plenty of Bad Grades on Eagles' Report Card as They Lose Again

Eagles-Packers Week 13 report card: Another week, another loss for Eagles originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

The Eagles fell to 3-8-1 with their 30-16 loss to the Packers at Lambeau Field and have now lost four straight since the bye week.

Here’s the latest report card:

Quarterbacks

Jalen Hurts: 5/12, 109 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 29 rushing yards

This is a tough one to grade because the Eagles benched Carson Wentz starting with the second drive of the second half. He was awful in this game, completing 6 of 15 passes for 79 yards, but at least he didn’t turn it over. Hurts’ numbers weren’t great but he clearly provided a spark. He threw a couple deep passes, one of which was his first career touchdown. And he picked up a couple big first downs with his legs.

Grade: C-

Running backs

Miles Sanders: 10 carries, 31 yards

The Eagles are a good running team that doesn’t run the football. That’s a problem. Sanders wasn’t very productive on Sunday but he got just 10 carries. Who’s to say the 11th wouldn’t have gone for 50? Ultimately, Sanders, Jordan Howard and Boston Scott combined for 16 carries for 59 yards (3.7). And none of the running backs had a catch.

Grade: D

Receivers

Greg Ward: 3 catches, 57 yards, touchdown

The Eagles’ receivers really had two big catches all game and both came from Hurts. One was a 34 yarder down the sideline to Jalen Reagor and the other was a 32-yard touchdown catch from Greg Ward. But Travis Fulgham didn’t have a catch on two targets and Alshon Jeffery didn’t have a catch on one target.

Grade: D+

Tight ends

Dallas Goedert: 5 catches, 66 yards

Goedert had a nice game and it could have been nicer if Wentz hit him in stride on that 41-yard pass. As it was, Goedert had to wait for the ball. If Wentz hits him in stride, it’s probably a touchdown. Zach Ertz returned with a two-catch, 31-yard day. Not great but he missed over a month with the ankle injury.

Grade: B

Offensive line

The Eagles gave up seven sacks on Sunday. Wentz went down four times and Hurts went down three. This offensive line continues to struggle. Jason Peters was having a rough go before the toe injury forced him out of the game. It might be time to shut him down.

Grade: D-

Defensive line

Vinny Curry: 2 tackles, 3 QB hits, 1 TFL

Javon Hargrave started out this game with an early sack and it looked like the DL was going to have a big game. That didn’t really happen. It seems like that has happened in a few games — the DL gets an early sack and then goes quiet. Curry made a couple plays but not much else showed up on the stat sheet. They got some pressure but not enough.

Grade: C

Linebackers

Alex Singleton: 12 tackles

Even though Singleton finished with a team-high in tackles, I thought it was his worst game of the season. He looked lost on the second-quarter touchdown to Robert Tonyan. And it was similar on a pass to 36-year-old Marcedes Lewis. T.J. Edwards got a sack but it came when Aaron Rodgers rolled into his legs after a scramble.

Grade: F

Secondary

Rodney McLeod: 4 tackles, 1 TFL

Not a great day for the secondary. For the second straight week, Darius Slay had a tough matchup against a top receiver. He battled, covered tight but didn’t make any plays. He’s gotta start making plays. On the other side, Avonte Maddox continues to get beaten every week. Even their safety play today wasn’t good. Rodney McLeod played OK but he missed a tackle on that big run. K’Von Wallace and Marcus Epps played a lot more but it’s going to be a learning process.

Grade: F

Special teams

Jalen Reagor: 1 punt return, 73 yards, 1 touchdown 

This is why the Eagles need to put Reagor back there to return punts more. That was a big play from the rookie and might give him some much needed confidence. Even though Jake Elliott missed a PAT, he did hit a 52-yarder. And Cam Johnston had a punt downed at the 1-yard line.

Grade: A-

Coaching

Record: 3-8-1

Look, there are still a lot of confounding decisions from the coaching staff. I don’t get playing Alshon Jeffery and Jason Peters. I don’t get giving Miles Sanders just 10 carries. But I’m giving Doug Pederson credit for finally benching Carson Wentz. It needed to be done and he pulled the trigger, which I know couldn’t have been easy for him.

Grade: B-
