Eagles Might Catch a Break and Miss Drew Brees After All

Eagles might catch a break and miss Drew Brees after all originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

It sounds like the Eagles might not have to face Drew Brees in Week 14 after all.

The Saints’ quarterback is dealing with a nasty injury that includes many broken ribs and a punctured lung, but initial reports indicated he would return in time to face the Eagles at the Linc on Dec. 13.

But the latest report from NFL Network doesn’t have him returning until the following weekend:

Brees is on IR so he is forced to miss a minimum of three games. That would open up a return against the Eagles in Week 14 but it sounds like he might need one more week to recover after that, which would obviously be a lucky break for the Eagles.

Today, the Saints play the Falcons and it sounds like Taysom Hill will start at QB, but Sean Payton has played it close to the vest all week. They also have Jameis Winston on the roster.

In any case, the Eagles would much rather face the Saints with Hill or Winston in a few weeks.

Brees is 7-3 all-time against the Eagles and is 3-0 against them in the playoffs. In those 10 games against the Eagles, he has completed 68% of his passes for 2,900 yards with 20 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a passer rating of 99.8.

The Eagles are entering a tough stretch of games against five straight opponents with winning records. The Saints game is the fourth of those five, so they’ll take any break they can get.
