Carson Wentz Ready to Help Jalen Reagor in Quest for Greatness

We're just one light day into the padded portion of Eagles training camp so take this with an enormous grain of salt but … Jalen Reagor looks good. Really good.

Just ask Carson Wentz.

The Eagles' quarterback on Monday praised Reagor's explosiveness, willingness to learn and, especially, his desire to be great. Wentz wants to help get him there.

"Having Jalen has been a lot of fun just to work with him," Wentz said. "He is an explosive athlete. You can see that with his route running ability and his down the field presence. I mean, you turn on his highlight tape, you see what he does with the ball in his hands. That's one thing we haven't been able to see with just practicing going on, nothing live. I know what he brings as a threat to the defense and I know he's really picked up on things really well.

"He's always listening, always curious about why we're doing things a certain way or how I saw a certain play. That's the type of thing I look for as a veteran to look for these young guys who truly want to learn, they want to grow and they want to be great. I see that in him and I see an extremely bright future with him. And I'm excited to help him become the player he dreams of being."

It's a good sign that Wentz and Reagor are already building a rapport with one another.

And it's also a good sign that Wentz is taking Reagor under his wing. That's one of his responsibilities as the franchise quarterback.

"He's the leader of our football team," head coach Doug Pederson said. "He's coaching up the young players, which is great to see."

On Monday, as the Eagles practiced in pads for the first time this summer, Wentz connected with the 1st-round pick several times, including one beautiful throw and catch to Reagor in the back of the end zone. The rookie made a spectacular catch.

"Jalen Reagor has really been impressive out on the football field," Pederson said before Monday's practice. "It will be interesting now as we get into the pads to see the physicality of all these guys as we continue to pursue towards, or at least make our move here in the next couple weeks towards the regular season."

There's no doubt that Reagor's explosiveness translated during the first day with pads. Now, there's a long way to go. But it's a good first step.
